Browse the fascinating exhibition in the barn about growing and using wood.
Enjoy a special spring bluebell walk (½-1¼ mile) in April and May.

  1. Find out about Wilderness Wood with a guided walk and demonstration,
    lasting about 1¼ hours; fascinating and entertaining. Up to ¾ mile distance. For the less mobile we use the “easy access” path (¼ml). If wet, a talk and demonstration in the barn. Choose from:
    A. “About Wilderness Wood” – find out how the wood ticks from the people that run it – including its history, wildlife and how we grow wood. Can include a demonstration – have a go yourselves!
    B. “Poison, glue and magic” – peculiar and interesting old uses of plants. Especially good at bluebell time (April/May).
    C. “Woodland fungi – death or dinner?” (Sept/Oct). Look into the amazing world of toadstools, with Anne Yarrow.

  2. For children.

  3. Bring a picnic, or hire a BBQ stand
    Enjoy your picnic in the grassy picnic area overlooking the paddock and the wood or near the adventure play area. There are two fixed barbecue stands available for hire – one near the play area and one in the grassy area, and one portable stand. Please bring utensils! You also need admission tickets.

    Lighting charge £4.50 per stand (if required).

  4. Wild cook-out Use our traditionally–built shelter deep in the woodland
    (20 min walk) for a really secluded campfire. Click here for further information and booking form.

  5. Wild camp
    Cook your dinner over a fire, watch the stars and camp out in our wooden shelter or a tent deep in the woods. Click here for further information and booking form.

  6. Enjoy delicious teas and lunches
    in the timber barn or tea garden including ploughman’s lunches, freshly filled rolls, locally-made soup, local farm ices, Sussex cakes.
    Souvenirs and woodland products to browse and buy.

  7. Hire the barn. A unique timber building (with woodstove) that you can hire for your exclusive use; including small kitchen. Evenings only. Barn seats 25, with additional seating for 25 in a lean-to and a gazebo behind the barn.
    Barn hire: £30 for up to 4 hours, plus £25 deposit, plus admission.

  8. Trail guides and activity sheets are available to help you understand and enjoy the wood.
